Power of Dreaming: TEDx Events Coming To Gilroy, Area Libraries This Month

The free live-streams are part of the 2016 TED conference: TED2016: Dream.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA - Several free TEDx events will take place at Santa Clara County Library District libraries (SCCLD) during the month of February.

A popular way to bring communities together, TEDx events invite local residents to gather in a communal atmosphere to watch and discuss ideas and topics. These independently organized events, licensed by TED, will present a live-stream of the 2016 TED conference: TED2016: Dream.

All sessions presented will be aired live as they are broadcast from Vancouver, Canada, Feb. 16-19.

Focusing on the greatest dreams one is capable of dreaming, TED2016: Dream takes a close look at some of humanity’s toughest challenges.

Local residents may attend one or more of the six free live-streaming events scheduled at five different SCCLD libraries. Topics covered range from the power of dreaming to how one can use imagination, invention and ingenuity to create a better world.

Milpitas Library Deep Memory Tues. Feb. 16 @ 5-6:45 p.m.

Gilroy Library TED University Wed. Feb. 17 @ 2:15-4 p.m.

Nightmare Wed. Feb. 17 @ 5-6:45 p.m.

Los Altos Library Nightmare Wed. Feb. 17 @ 5-6:45 p.m.

Cupertino Library Outside the Box Thurs. Feb. 18 @ 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Campbell Library Dreams Thurs. Feb. 18 @ 2:15-4 p.m.

“The library is an outstanding forum for sharing thoughts and fostering inspiration,” commented Nancy Howe, County Librarian for the Santa Clara County Library District. “We’re very pleased that we are able to bring these timely topics to local residents and look forward to not only sharing these talks with the community but providing an opportunity for further discussion,” continued Howe.

Videos that present a great idea in 18 minutes or less, TED Talks have grown in popularity since its first online broadcast in 2006. With the goal to share ideas worth spreading, the talks center on a variety of fields including science, technology, business and culture around the world. TED Talks are available online for free and have garnered over one billion collective views.
