Officials with the California Community College Chancellor's Office are contemplating modifying the qualifications for receiving the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver.
Amongst the proposed changes include the loss of said fee waiver if a student is placed on academic probation for two consecutive terms. Foster youth is exempt from loss of eligibility.
The proposal was first read at the Community College Board of Governor's meeting, Nov. 12.
The proposed changes also include references to new Student Success and Support Program regulations regarding support services that must be provided to at-risk students.
The proposed changes could increase costs, or create new costs for community colleges. Officials said the proposed changes could lessen the amount of fee waivers awarded, creating a net savings, officials said.
The proposed changes will presented to the board of governor's one last time in January 2014 where officials will take a vote, according to information provided by the board of governors.
