First Christian Church of Glendora and Classic Coffee will hold the first Empty Cups fundraiser to aid local hunger relief efforts.
The fundraiser is an extension of FCC's Empty Bowls event and aims to "fight hunger … one cup at a time," organizers said.
Empty Cups will offer handmade ceramic cups for $15 each. The donation includes the cup, a hot beverage and a ticket for prize drawings throughout the event. Proceeds will go to help local pantries, such as Shepherd's Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul and the Glendora Police Department food voucher program.
“In the past 10 years the Empty Bowls benefit has raised over $80,000 to aid those in need of immediate hunger relief,” said event organizer Lynn Hendricks in a statement. “The majority of the funds are raised during the benefit, but donations are received by First Christian Church throughout the year.”
Over 60 artists will make the cups, including Mike Hillman, Citrus College professor, Pioneer Potters of the Tri-Community Adult Program, students from Azusa Pacific University's City Links program and Ceramic Services & Pottery Studio in Chino.
Classic Coffee has “always donated to schools and our local churches, but we are excited and honored to be able to use the resources we have in a new way” said Jonathan Lambert, Classic Coffee general manager.
The event lasts from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Classic Coffee, 148 North Glendora Avenue.
