'Better Driving Experience' in High School Parking Lots

Thanks to Measure S funds, Half Moon Bay High School now has new and improved parking lots.

Half Moon Bay High School students, parents, and community members will have a "better driving experience" in the renovated parking lots on campus this school year thanks to Measure S funds, said Jarrett Dooley, Assistant Principal.

“The changes will lead to an increased focus on student safety and improvements to the flow of traffic," said Dooley. "We look forward to further easements that will continue improving in these areas."

The Cabrillo Unified School District announced the completion of the extensive improvements to the student and staff parking lots at Half Moon Bay High School this week. It's the first project under the Measure Facility Bond Program, which provides an eventual $81 million in bond funds to improve the District’s facilities, increase energy efficiency, and bring technology into the hands of students. Measure S was approved by the voters living within the Cabrillo Unified School District attendance area in June 2012.

The high school parking lot improvements complemented the installation of solar array panels that were installed this past winter (not related to Measure S). In addition, certain traffic areas were redesigned to improve safety for both pedestrians and those in vehicles.

The project was awarded to Dryco Construction, Inc. from Freemont. Dryco was awarded the project through a competitive bid process. The initial contract was for $387,340. Additions to the project were added for a total of $30,419, bringing the final contract to $417,759. Dryco started work on June 5 and completed the project on August 2 and ahead of schedule.
