Coastside Clinic Rolls Out Expanded Health Services, Holds Grand Opening

On Thursday, the in Half Moon Bay will celebrate the opening of its new facility with a reception, ribbon cutting and tours. 

Part of the San Mateo Medical Center system, the reopened in December with an at Shoreline Station in Half Moon Bay after seven months of construction.

The size of the facility was increased to over seven times of its original size of 1,200 sq. feet on the building's second floor to 8,800 sq. feet on the first floor.

"We'll now be able to double our number of patients," said Patrick Grisham, Clinic Manager. The clinic sees patients covered through Medi-Cal or county health plans, according to Grisham.

Since the clinic's reopening in December, Grisham said, access to care has increased. Pediatric care is now available five days per week, obstetrics/gynecology care is now available three days a week (Monday, Thursday, Friday), and adult primary care is available for one full day and two half days (Monday full days; Tuesday and Wednesday half days).

In April, the clinic will launch adult primary and pediatric care clinics from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Thursday nights.

Before the expansion, Grisham said, the clinic was only able to provide two days a week of pediatric care, two days a week of obstetrics/gynecology care, and one day a week of adult primary care. 

On Wednesday evenings, WIC services are available on site, as well as free health care for the uninsured through the .

Dental care services are scheduled to launch on April 16, according to Grisham. Dental education will be provided by Half Moon Bay's in coordination with the clinic's dental department.

Funding for the facility was secured from a $1.7 million grant in stimulus funds granted from the Health Resources and Service Administration. The clinic used the extra $350,000 in funds available after the construction came in under budget to purchase medical equipment including an ultrasound, a colposcope used to examine abnormal pap smears and a LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) device used to remove abnormal cervical tissue. New optometry exam and dental services equipment were also acquired.

The clinic's conference room is also available to local community groups as a meeting space for no charge, Grisham said.

The grand opening celebration for the Coastside Clinic will start at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 at 225 S. Cabrillo Highway in Half Moon Bay at Shoreline Station. A reception with refreshments begins at 4:30 p.m. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and tours begin at 6 p.m. View a flyer about the event in the media box at right.
