First Commercial Crabs Land at Pillar Point Harbor

A steady stream of customers found their way to 's fishing vessel, the Allaine, to buy the first Dungeness crabs of the season.

The Allaine was the first ship back in port at Pillar Point Harbor after Half Moon Bay fishermen rushed to get out to sea yesterday after some San Francisco crabbers

Selling crabs directly to the public off the back of his boat, Anderson was receiving $4.25 a pound for the crabs over 2 pounds and $4.00 a pound for the smaller ones.

Before the unexpected action, Central Coast commercial fishermen were in the midst of a where they were holding out for a cost of $2.50 per pound agreement with the large-scale seafood buyers.

When asked if a price agreement had been reached with the large buyers, Anderson said, "There is still no definite word on price. I heard some rumors on the radio, but I don't know."

"It was nice to have some unity while we did," Anderson said when asked about the San Francisco crabbers.  

"It is what it is," Anderson said. "Crabbing is crabbing."
