• 2.4 magnitude earthquake registered near Hawthorne, CA on Sept. 12 (sacbee.com) — A minor 2.4 magnitude earthquake struck about a mile east-northeast of Hawthorne just after midnight Saturday, and residents are invited to report whether they felt it to the USGS. While this small quake and last week's 3.1 near Compton caused no reported damage, officials emphasize basic "drop, cover, and hold on" safety steps for future shaking.
