Strong Chabot Set For Wagoner Classic
Host Gladiators have talented cast of returners, newcomers as season tips off in Hayward.
A formidable Chabot men’s basketball team will tip off the new season by hosting the third annual John L. Wagoner Classic, Thursday through Saturday.
The Glads boast a strong cast of returners and an exciting group of newcomers. Chabot is ranked 15th in the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association (CCCMBCA) Preseason Top 20, and No. 8 in the North.
Chabot opens the Classic against Shasta at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Key Chabot returners include Zion Yeargin (6-5, For.), Amani Johnson (6-3, G), Oz Savage (6-7, For.), and Christian Wilson (6-10, Ctr.). Sophomore Malik Merchant (6-2, G) played in 2022-23 for College of San Mateo.
Yeargin and Johnson were first-team all-Coast-North selections last season, and Savage was honorable mention. All three made the conference Freshman Team.

Interim head coach Marquis Glenn is also excited about freshmen newcomers Kamari King, Domonique Trotter, Nate Stroud, and Cayden Kelly.
