2 Classes On Political Science, History, Elections -- How Timely! -- Hosted In Healdsburg
Both six-week courses area at Raven Performing Arts Theater and hosted by Healdsburg AAUW.

HEALDSBURG, CA – The Healdsburg Branch of American Association of University Women announces the Fall 2016 season of Forum with two classes focusing on a hot topic—presidential elections.
Outstanding presenters provide a wealth of information to help attendees better understand and analyze elections as they prepare to vote on November 8, 2016.
Both six-week courses begin in early October and will take place at the Raven Performing Arts Theater in Healdsburg. Enrollment fee for each class is $90.

A HISTORY OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS: FROM THE ASCENT OF WASHINGTON TO THE RISE OF TRUMP -- Tuesdays 10-11:30 am, Oct. 4 – Nov. 8
Chris O’Sullivan, PhD, makes elections come alive as he presents the colorful history of Presidential elections from George Washington to the present. This course reveals that political campaigns have always been compelling, contentious, and packed with drama and surprising consequences. Learning about past Presidential elections provides a broad base of historical information to contemplate, discuss and consider as our election day nears.

Dr. O’Sullivan teaches American history at the University of San Francisco. He is the author of five books addressing the histories of fourteen presidents.
2016: THE MOTHER OF ALL ELECTIONS—HOW DID WE GET HERE AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN? -- Thursdays 10 - 11:30 am, Oct. 6 – Nov. 10
David McCuan, Ph.D and David Peritz, DPhil—two outstanding political scientists—will teach this course on alternate weeks, sharing their understanding of factors that influence the shape of our current democracy and how those factors contribute to voter behavior and have implications for the future. They will explore how money and special interests affect election outcomes and how transformations in political infrastructure, the economy and current media may be undermining our traditional concept of democracy.
Dr. McCuan is a professor at Sonoma State University where he teaches about campaigns, elections, political behavior, security and terrorism, as well as state and local politics.
Dr. Peritz is a professor at Sarah Lawrence College and faculty member in the M.A. Liberal Studies program at Dartmouth. He researches modern and contemporary political philosophy, especially theories of democracy and justice and their relations to issues of diversity and inequality.
