Blaze Causes $400K of Damage to Sonoma Co. Vacation-Rental Home

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – A fire caused major damage to an unoccupied three-story vacation rental residence in The Sea Ranch in Sonoma County Thursday afternoon, a Cal Fire captain said.

The back of the 1,000-square-foot home on 35421 Timber Ridge Road was in flames when Cal Fire arrived around 3:10 p.m., Capt. Robbie Barnes said.

The house is located near the Cal Fire station in The Sea Ranch, and firefighters were able to stop the fire before it destroyed the structure, Barnes said. Damage is estimated at $400,000.

The cause is under investigation, but there is an electrical panel outside the back of the residence, Barnes said.

The owners of the house live outside Sonoma County, and it's unknown when the one-bedroom house was most recently rented, Barnes said.

Firefighters were on the scene until around 6:30 p.m., Barnes said.

In addition to Cal Fire, the North Sonoma Coast Fire Protection District that includes Sea Ranch and Annapolis firefighters, the Timber Cove Fire Protection District and the South Coast Fire Protection District in Mendocino County responded to the blaze.
