Boy, 13, Stabbed By Relative's Boyfriend: Santa Rosa Police

BREAKING: An 18-year-old Mendocino County man has been arrested in the stabbing that left the boy with a punctured lung, police say.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- An arrest was made Monday in the alleged stabbing last week of a 13-year-old boy in Santa Rosa, police said. Andru James Campbell, 18, of the Mendocino County area was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in the knife attack that left the boy with a punctured lung and other wounds, according to Santa Rosa police Detective Joe Bjornstrom.

Santa Rosa police were notified of the boy's injuries at 2:50 p.m. Aug. 2 by the Sonoma County Indian Health Clinic, 144 Stony Point Road, where a family member had taken the victim for treatment of a significant stab wound to his upper arm, Bjornstrom said.

Detectives arrived to interview the boy and learned he had been stabbed at an apartment on Stony Point Road during a dispute with a family member's boyfriend, Bjornstrom said.

The boy was airlifted to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland for treatment of a punctured lung. The victim, whose name will not be released because of his age, has since been released from the hospital, Bjornstrom said.

Meanwhile, detectives followed up on leads and identified Campbell as their suspect in the stabbing.

Santa Rosa police then located Campbell Monday evening in Santa Rosa. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Sonoma County jail.

Police released a photo of a knife with a 9- to 10-inch blade, which detectives believe was used in the assault.

Police say they don't believe the incident was gang-related, but the alleged motive is still being investigated. Anyone with information in the incident is asked to call the Violent Crimes Investigation Team at 707-543-3590. Callers can choose to remain anonymous.
