Set in 1980s New York City, a gay man is abandoned by his lover when he contracts the AIDS virus, while closeted Mormon lawyer’s marriage to his pill-popping wife stalls. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Widely described as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, Angels in America is a complex, dynamic, sometimes surrealistic examination of the AIDS crisis and homosexuality in the United States, while touching on universal issues including change, loss, identity, and the challenges of finding community in an increasingly fractured society.
