Check It Out - Literally! - Do-It-Yourself Energy, Water Savings Tool Kits At Library

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – Three Sonoma County libraries will be lending more than books starting Tuesday.

The Guerneville, Sebastopol and Central Santa Rosa branches will have do-it-yourself tool kits that promote water and energy saving.

The six-month pilot project is modeled after a successful program in Santa Clara County. Library cardholders will be able to check out the kits at the three branches for up to three weeks.

The kits have information on weather-stripping windows and doors, monitoring electricity use, finding water leaks, switching to LED light bulbs and other home upgrade projects.

If the pilot program is deemed successful after six months, it will be offered at additional Sonoma County Library branches.

"This is a great beginning for the Library in providing environmental education resources to the residents of Sonoma County," library director Brett Lear said in a statement.

Sonoma Clean Power, the Sonoma County Energy and Sustainability Division and the Sonoma County Water Agency are also involved in the pilot program.
