Estrada's Arrest
The Santa Rosa Police Department said in a news release issued prior to Estrada's death that he was arrested in connection with a stabbing Saturday morning that occurred just south of Sebastopol Road and state Highway 12 in the area of Challenger Way and Capricorn Way.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a man suffering from three stab wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital, and his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
Their investigation revealed Estrada was in an argument with a woman on Challenger Way near Capricorn Way, and when the victim tried to intervene, it is alleged that Estrada stabbed him with a pointed instrument, according to a news release from Santa Rosa police Sgt. Justin Farrington.
When officers tracked Estrada down to a trailer parked on Challenger Way, it is alleged that Estrada barricaded himself inside the trailer.
"Estrada refused to exit the trailer for several minutes but finally was taken into custody after lengthy negotiations," Farrington said in the release issued at 1:53 p.m. Saturday.
SRPD Violent Crimes detectives responded to the scene of the stabbing and assumed the investigation into Estrada, who had an extensive criminal past and was on post-release community supervision, Farrington said in the release.
According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, Estrada's booking charges Saturday were assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of post-release community supervision.
