Cyclist Killed In Sonoma Co. Hit-And-Run Crash: CHP

BREAKING: A license plate from a BMW was found and officers are looking for a person of interest.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A cyclist from Berkeley died Sunday morning in unincorporated Sonoma County when a BMW hit him in a hit-and-run crash, California Highway Patrol officials said. At about 8:45 a.m. a person was driving a BMW west on River Road, west of Summer Crossing just west of Guerneville when he lost control of the vehicle as it entered a curve.

CHP officials said the BMW slid across the road and struck the 59-year-old cyclist who was stopped on the shoulder looking at his phone.

The driver of the BMW did not stop but drove west until he turned around and went back toward Guerneville.

CHP officials said firefighters declared the cyclist dead at the scene. His name won't be released until his family is told.
