Cyclist Killed In Weekend Tour De Fuzz Ride Identified

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a bicyclist who died after she was injured during the Tour de Fuzz ride in Sonoma County on Saturday as Amy Suyama, 55, of Sebastopol.

Suyama was riding north on Eastside Road near Windsor River Road with a friend, Andy Dean, around 11:10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Courtney Rudin, 73, of Healdsburg, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet truck south on Eastside Road when he came upon a slow-moving truck, according to the CHP.

Rudin began to pass the truck over broken yellow lines as Suyama and Dean approached. The CHP is investigating how or if Rudin's Chevrolet hit Suyama's bicycle, but Suyama lost control as the truck passed and she fell onto the roadway.

Suyama was responsive while she was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, but her condition deteriorated and she was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the CHP.

Suyama died at 11:51 a.m., sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

The Tour de Fuzz is a bicycle ride through Sonoma County Wine Country. There are 1,300 spaces for 50K, 100K and 100-mile riders. Proceeds benefit The Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Foundation and the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Service in Sonoma County, which has 60 volunteers.
