UPDATE: Whoooo Hoooo! Plaza Rocks for Trick or Treat

Dozens of kids in costumes throng to Healdsburg Plaza merchants for Halloween goodies.

Kids of all ages rocked the Healdsburg Plaza Monday in costumes from Angels to Zorro.

"It's just fun," said Gary Giovannoni, who was stationed with his stash of treats and a dozen friends at . "We've been doing this for as long as they've been doing it."

Giovannoni said he enjoyed the social aspect and seeing the kids in costume.

"We get to see people and their children who we don't normally get to see," he said.

it might have been hard to top the fun and success of Saturday's dog costume parade at Healdsburg Plaza, but Monday's trick and treat crowd might just have done it.

"It's such a sweet thing," said Sue Sacks of "It's nothing organized -- I love the fact that it just happens."

Most Plaza merchants are prepared early with a bowl of candy or other treats, she said.

"It's like the dog parade -- the parents often get dressed up too," Sacks added.

said it's a popular event for parents of younger children who feel it's safer and easier to take them trick or treating at Plaza merchants than walking them around to neighborhood homes.

Sacks added that she has heard of families with kids that do double-shifts -- meaning they hit the Plaza shops first, come home and unload treats, and then go out to knock on doors in the neighborhood.
