“This has proven to be a great alternative outlet for the students and a fun one at that.” Said Robert Lee, Healdsburg High School teacher. “The goal of this event is to raise awareness of many social and environmental issues that this club and youth in general see as their greatest challenges in the years ahead.
"This is a great environment to see how this youthful group is planning on raising social awareness regarding these issues," Fagan said.
The theme for this event is to educate, empower and act. The goal is to educate people and to empower them to take action against a wide variety of issues.
To that end, many environmental and social justice speakers will be there on Earth Day to raise awareness.
Speakers will include:
--Media analyst and social critic Norman Solomon;
--Project Censored, an investigative journalistic organization;
--The Green Challenge's representative Veronica Jacobi;
--The Immigrants Rights Committee speaker Davin Cardenas;
--Russian River activists speaking about the wild salmon habitat;
--Sonoma County supervisor
As well as the speakers, there will be over 30 booths from various community organizations. There will be a bake sale, a silent auction, an art and science show and Mother Earth face painting for all of the children that attend.
