Gauchos Roll Over Hounds 69-34

Healdsburg unable to keep up with Casa Grande.

Healdsburg’s offense was no match Saturday night against the high pressure defense of Casa Gande.

The Gauchos maintained a full-court, swarming defense all night that prevented the Hounds from getting into a groove and giving Casa a 69-34 victory at home.

The Greyhounds went into to Saturday’s game with a chance to tie Casa for third place in the Sonoma County League.  But they never got the opportunity to get their game on track.

The Gauchos held the Hounds scoreless for the first six minutes of the game with Healdsburg finally put it’s first point on the board with 1:59 left in the first on a Cameron Lutz free throw.

Healdsburg trailed 14-4 at the end of the first quarter and 33-17 at the half.

The second half was a mirror image of the first, with the Gauchos keeping the pressure on.  Casa dominated the boards at both ends of the court, getting numerous second chance baskets.

Healdsburg failed to get in sync, resorting to rushed, low percentage shots.  Casa’s size advantage kept the Hounds out of the paint, forcing them to take jump shots under pressure.

On the offensive side, Casa utilized crisp passing to keep the Hounds off balance.  The Gauchos used their skills to split the Hound defense giving Casa’s large front line the open lane to drive for the basket.

Lutz lead the Hounds with 11 points, followed by Kenneth Evans with 8.  Chase Stafford scored 20 points for the Gauchos while 6’7” senior Austin Mattos scored 13.

Healdsburg hosts El Molino Tuesday night for their final regular season game and Casa travels to league-leading Windsor Thursday.
