"When I was 12, my parents decided I should take violin lessons. So for one hour per day I practiced in the living room.

Then my teacher announced that I would participate, as a novice, in the upcoming recital and to practice at least two-hours per day. After a few days of squeaks and squacks, mother decided I should practice in my bedroom upstairs.

At first my mother would yell, "Please shut the door."

By Saturday it was my father who yelled, "Stop that infernal noise!"

Mom again came to my rescue and said better practice in the basement. Several days passed when she was ironing in the laundry room in the basement.

She said, "Louis, it has been warm lately. Why don't you practice in the backyard?"

When the neighbors complained my future as a violin virtuoso came to an abrupt end."
