Healdsburg Is Your Jazz Destination: 17th Annual Festival Is Underway

With a Latin American influence this year, the entertainment runs through June 7. Check out the awesome roster line-up ...

In its 17th annual edition, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, underway through June 7 in Sonoma County, leans in the direction of Latin American elements and the stimulating sounds of hard bop.

The festival showcases rare appearances by Brazilian artists including vocal legend Luciana Souza in a duo with Romero Lumbabo and Trio da Paz—with special guest Kenny Barron, plus Argentine “Nuevo tango” master Pablo Ziegler, and formative Latin Jazz legend Eddie Palmieri, all part of the “Jazz and the Music of the Americas” festival-within-a- festival on opening weekend.

The festival roster line-up also includes harp bop all-star band The Cookers, piano masters George Cables and Benny Green, blues with Terrie Odabi and other acclaimed Latin Jazz groups including the Wayne Wallace Quintet with guest Jackie Ryan and the band from Indiana University, Ritmos Unidos.

A new outdoor event, “New Orleans Day on the Green” has been added this year showcasing three bands including St. Gabriel’s Celestial Brass Band, The Dixie Giants and the Russian River Ramblers.
