Healdsburg outlast the Jaguars 48-47 in girls basketball action Monday evening

The final SCL league match-up between the Lady Greyhounds and Lady Jaguars proved to be an exciting game with Healdsburg holding on to defeat their cross-town rivals 48-47 Monday evening at Windsor High School.

A final 3-point shot by Windsor’s Ashton Beth brought the Jaguars to within one point with 1.9 seconds left, but the late surge fell short as Healdsburg let the clock run out.

Healdsburg came out strong, controlling the game during the first half.  A dominate defensive effort allowed the Hounds to control the tempo of the game.  Solid shooting, including 3-point shots, gave Healdsburg a 28-20 lead going into the half.  But a more agressive Jaguar team came out of the locker room to take command during the third quarter.

The Jaguar defense, controlling both the offensive and defense boards, held the Hounds scoreless for the first 3:30 of the third quarter, allowing Windsor to erase the point deficit and take the lead with 2:01 left. The quarter ending with the score tied 32-32.

Both teams played strong during the fourth quarter, however Windsor’s agressive defensive effort resulted in their getting into foul trouble.  This proved fatal as the Hounds took advantage at the foul line.  Healdsburg’s Cassidy Jordan made four clutch free throws in the final minute of the game to lift the Hounds into the lead.  Windsor kept trying to close the gap but fell short as time ran out.

Cassidy Jourdan led the Lady Greyhounds with 13 points and Milan Spadoni followed with 10 points.  SCL league scoring leader Kerianne Noonan led the Jaguars with 24 points.

Windsor will move to the North Bay League at the end of this year. Tuesday evening the Hound and Jaguar men face-off at Healdsburg for their final league game.
