If you’ve ever been to Moondance Cellars, you realize that, beyond the excellent wine, the greatest thing about it is the way they make you feel when you are there.
If a wine tasting experience you enjoy is one of seeing your long-lost, laid back best friend, then this is the place for you! Part of what makes David and Priscilla Cohen of Moondance Cellars so special is their ability to make you into their buddy, even if you’ve only just met them. Living both their motto and their lifestyle, “no pretensions”, this is what you’ll get with them as they project a relaxed, laid back atmosphere in which to taste their delicious, and yes, award-winning wines.
This practice continues as they bring wine tasting home to their winery, located just outside of Sebastopol. Visitors will be greeted the same as they always have been in Sonoma Valley; with a smile and glass of wine and the time to sit and chat. Ask David about his wine-making philosophy, chat with Priscilla about the horses you see on the bucolic, Sebastopol country farm, or just sit and soak up the easy-living lifestyle.

After 23 years, David and Priscilla have decided to bring the tasting side of their operation back to the winery site in Sebastopol, California.
This iconic brand of Moondance Cellars (one of the earliest trademarked wine brands in an industry that still doesn’t trademark!), along with white wine sister-partner, Orchard Station Winery, has long been a feature in Sonoma Valley. David and Priscilla have decided to take it back home where they have a pop-in tasting principle.

All you need to do is give them a call, and you will you will be treated with the same wonderful laid back, “come on in, friend” sort of attitude that they’ve always had in the tasting room in Sonoma Valley.
“This is a new venture on our road of adventures,” says David. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to welcome new guests and long-time wine club members to our home property and treat them like friends!”
Call ahead for a pop-in appointment, and when you arrive at their property, you will be greeted by the nicker of horses, the welcoming bark of their dog, Morrie, and a glass of wine in hand with a friendly smile from David and Priscilla.
“We want our friends to be able to see where we make the wine”, says David. “We love our little property, and feel like it’s time to start bringing people here to see what we really are all about.”
“There’s a kind of friendly intimacy that you can’t get in a tasting room setting”, says Priscilla. “We hope to provide that sort of setting for our wine club members by bringing them to our property and letting them see and feel what we have on a daily basis. The time is right since we wanted to scale back to something that is more fun for us. Now we know our guests are going to have a great time. We’re pretty excited about the timing as we’ve just had some nice awards from the [2015] San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.”
Recently featured on KSRO Radio’s Saturday program, On the Wine Road, and recommended by NBC Bay Area’s Worth the Trip blog, Priscilla and David have reason to celebrate.
So come on out and enjoy some fantastic wine, and if you’re lucky, while chatting, you may get a peek at David’s candy brandy-wine 1965 Corvette (twice featured on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine). How cool is that?
