Police Suspect Mountain Lion Killed Fawn In Sonoma County

BREAKING: The young deer was found dead Saturday morning of injuries suggesting a mountain lion attacked it.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Cloverdale police suspect a mountain lion attacked a fawn that was found dead in south Cloverdale on Saturday morning. The young deer was found around 9 a.m. between Pepperwood Drive and Hot Springs Road. The fawn's injuries suggest a mountain lion attacked it and was then scared off, leaving the fawn behind, police said.

Police issued an advisory containing information from the Mountain Lion Foundation on how to react during an encounter with a mountain lion.

The information includes making yourself appear as large as possible, making noise, acting like a predator, slowly creating a distance from a mountain lion and protecting yourself in the event of an attack.
