Sawmill Fire: Sonoma County Brush Fire Mushrooms to 1,500 Acres (UPDATE)

BREAKING: Some residents evacuated in the Cloverdale area.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – Firefighters are battling a fire that has quickly grown to 1,500-acres Sunday evening in unincorporated Sonoma County, Cal Fire officials said. It is now 10 percent contained.

The Sawmill Fire is located near Big Geysers and Geysers Resort roads, just 10 miles east of Cloverdale, according to Cal Fire officials. It has burned grassland and oak trees.

The fire was first reported around 11 a.m., a dispatcher with the Cloverdale Fire Protection District said.

Residents in the area have been evacuated, according to the dispatcher. Cal Fire PIO Berlant said approximately 36 homes have been evacuated.

It was not immediately clear if any injuries have been reported.

An aggressive air attack on the flames is underway, with eight air tankers and two helicopters on hand.
