San Francisco CBS affiliate KPIX broadcast a three-minute news report on the controversy over Sonoma County's bicyclists and car drivers use of the roads on Saturday.
It's published online in article form as "Amgen Tour Of California Pits Bicycles Vs. Cars," but the Amgen Tour is purely a ploy: it's about the local battle for the asphalt.
The TV spot is included as playable video on the page, and it's a pretty good summary of the arguments pro and con about the Vulnerable Users Ordinance currently rescheduled for the Healdsburg City Council meeting June 3.
Interviewed are Gary Helfrick, director of Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, and Supervisor Shirlee Zane. Both are strong advocates of a ordinance that gives cyclists and pedestrians a little more protection under the law from harassment.
Also interviewed on camera is John Daniels of Windsor, a tasting room manager at Ferrari-Carano. Daniel's view is that of a bike-sympathetic driver who nonetheless has to deal with the problem of packs of cyclists on his daily commute, up Dry Creek Rd.
