Speeding Mercedes Driver Accused Of Trying To Bribe CHP Officer
Breaking: When stopped on U.S. Highway 101, the man "offered the officer a sum of money to let him out and not take him to jail," CHP says.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A Napa County man is accused of attempting to bribe a California Highway Patrol officer after the man was stopped on suspicion of speeding Sunday on U.S. Highway 101 near Windsor.
According to a report from CHP's Santa Rosa division, 30-year-old Calistoga resident Brandon Davis was driving a Mercedes-Benz and was first observed speeding at about midnight Sunday as he entered the freeway from the Mendocino Avenue on-ramp in Santa Rosa. Officers began to pace the Mercedes as Davis allegedly drove more than 100 mph and made multiple lane changes, said CHP Officer Jon Sloat.
"The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued at a high rate of speed until finally pulling over near Arata Lane," Sloat said.

Davis was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but because he had multiple previous violations for driving on a suspended license, officers decided to detain the Mercedes driver, according to Sloat.
While inside the patrol vehicle, Davis allegedly "repeatedly unbuckled his seat belt and attempted to exit, despite being ordered to remain seated," prompting officers to place him under arrest, Sloat said.

"Davis then offered the officer a sum of money to let him out and not take him to jail," Sloat said.
However, Davis was ultimately booked into jail on suspicion of driving while suspended, exceeding 100 mph, failure to follow a lawful order and attempting to bribe an officer, Sloat said.
His Mercedes was impounded, according to the CHP.
