UPDATE: Clayton Fire Balloons To 1,400 Acres In 12 Hours
Containment at 5 percent in the Lake County region. [Breaking]

LAKE COUNTY, CA – The Clayton Fire, burning in Lake County, has consumed 1,400 acres as of 6:30 a.m. this morning -- after a little more than 12 hours since it broke out south of Lower Lake.
The fire first was logged Saturday at 6:03 p.m. off Highway 29 and Clayton Creek Road.
Some 500 firefighters are at the scene of the rapidly spreading blaze this morning, and containment is recorded at 5 percent, the agency said.

One structure was destroyed, but details on the type of building were not available this morning.
"Crews are preparing for a challenging and intense fire fight. Structures are threatened and currently mandatory evacuations are in place," Cal Fire officials said. "Terrain is grassy oak woodland, heavy brush and difficult access in some areas."

Some mandatory evacuations are ordered for area residents, (details here), and an evacuation center is set up at Highlands Senior Center in Clearlake, 3245 Bowers Ave. in Clearlake.
The cause is under investigation.
