HEALDSBURG, CA — The touristy Sonoma County town of Healdsburg drew a different type of visitor early Friday morning: a black bear spent nearly an hour wandering the city's streets, according to news reports and the Healdsburg Police Officers' Association.
The sighting was initially reported by a 911 caller at 2:13 a.m. Friday as the bear was seen "running northbound on First Street near Matheson," a Healdsburg police lieutenant told members of the media.
Officers wasted no time gathering evidence: photos of the bear were taken as it pawsed in the back lot of the police department on Center Street, according to reports.

The creature was then spotted in the area of Fitch Street before it headed out of town at about 3:08 a.m. toward Fitch Mountain, police said.
Although Healdsburg police reported the sighting to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, there were no reports of any incidents involving the bear's leisurely tour through town.

"At first we thought Bear Republic Brewing Company's mascot might have gotten loose when we saw it running around in the plaza," Healdsburg Police Officers' Association said in a Facebook post.
