Wells Fargo Site of Occupy Wall Street@ Healdsburg Demonstration

A half-dozen protestors showed up at the Healdsburg Wells Fargo branch this morning to inform patrons of local alternatives to the national "big bank"

 

The sign Jackie Leonard held up in front of the ATM machines at the Healdsburg Branch of the showed the community face of local protest.

"We oppose this bank's policies, not its local staff," the sign read.

"I used to work at a bank," she said, "and this is not about the employees."

A handout distributed to bank patrons outlined some of the group's concerns about Wells Fargo, but generally both protestors and patrons were cooperative and non-confrontational.

"We had between 30 and 40 using the ATM machine this morning that we spoke to," said Dave Henderson of the Healdsburg Peace Project, which with the group co-sponsored the demonstration.

The handout listed several bullet points about "What's wrong with Wells Fargo?" and urged patrons to switch to local banks. and Summit State Bank, both of which have offices in the same Vineyard Plaza as Wells Fargo, were listed as alternatives. Others included and Redwood Credit Union, both of Santa Rosa -- although has a new branch in Healdsburg.

The protestors are expected to remain at the bank until 2 p.m., some working "in shifts" and some staying the entire time, clarified Robert Nuese.
