Woman Dies When Canoe Overturns In Russian River

SONOMA COUNTY, CA –A woman died today on the Russian River near Healdsburg when her canoe accidentally overturned, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.
The woman in her 60s was canoeing with two friends around 12:35 p.m. The woman, who was wearing a life jacket, went into the water but her two friends made it to shore, the sheriff's office said.
The survivors found a vineyard worker who called 911, and the sheriff's helicopter Henry-1 responded.

Sheriff's deputies from the Marine Unit and Santa Rosa office and fire personnel from Healdsburg, Geyserville and Forestville also responded to the water rescue.
The helicopter located the woman under tree limbs around 1:30 p.m. and delivered her to shore where she was pronounced dead.
