Woman Killed In Canoeing Accident On Russian River Identified

BREAKING: The victim was out with two friends when the tragic accident occurred. A vineyard worker called 911.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – The woman who died Friday in a canoeing accidenton the russian River near Healdsburg has been identified as 69-year-old Heidi Boley of Richmond, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was canoeing with two friends around 12:35 p.m and was wearing a life jacket when she went into the water. Her two friends made it to shore, the sheriff's office said.

The survivors found a vineyard worker who called 911, and the sheriff's helicopter Henry-1 responded.

Sheriff's deputies from the Marine Unit and Santa Rosa office and fire personnel from Healdsburg, Geyserville and Forestville also responded to the water rescue. The helicopter located the woman under tree limbs around 1:30 p.m. and delivered her to shore where she was pronounced dead.

Boley's family was notified of her death, the agency said.
