Hermosa Beach Park Closed For Tree Removal

Removal of a large eucalyptus tree at Fort Lots of Fun City Park is necessary for public safety, city officials said.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – A park in Hermosa Beach was closed Thursday to allow crews to remove a diseased eucalyptus tree deemed to be a danger to the public.

Fort Lots of Fun Park, at Sixth Street and Prospect Avenue, will remain closed until April 6, according to city officials.

The tree is "diseased and decaying at its base and roots" making it "a danger to public safety," according to a city statement.

"City staff consulted the expert opinion of two arborists as to the city's options," according to the statement. "Both agreed with the necessity of removal."

Public Works Department crews are expected to finish their work on Wednesday, according to the city.
