Updated: Hermosa Man Suspected of Killing Girlfriend to Appear in Court
David Abbott is being held on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend in her Hermosa Beach apartment. Update: He pleads not guilty.

Updated (Thursday, 3:01 a.m.): David Brian Abbott pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a murder charge stemming from the weekend shooting death of Hermosa Beach resident Samantha Sproson.
Abbott was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $2 million bail pending his next appearance in Torrance Superior Court on Feb. 15.

A man remained in custody Tuesday for allegedly in her Hermosa Beach apartment.
Officers were sent to the 700 block of Manhattan Avenue about 5 a.m. Saturday "on a report of an argument, followed by the sound of a gunshot," said Hermosa Beach police Detective Mick Gaglia.

Samantha Sproson, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. A motive for the crime was not released.
David Brian Abbott, 32, of Hermosa Beach, was arrested at the crime scene and booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $1 million, Gaglia said.
Abbott was expected to be arraigned at the Torrance courthouse Wednesday.
