📰 News we're reading

1. A hollow victory for a California car wash owner (pacificlegal.org) — A Hermosa Beach car wash owner has finally beaten a massive state wage citation, but only after losing his Rock N Roll Car Wash and laying off more than 30 workers when required surety bonds were pulled. His ongoing lawsuit now challenges how California's Labor Commissioner can demand bond payouts and shut down local businesses before any judge reviews the evidence.

2. Meet the Hermosa Beach City Council Candidates: Eric Horne (easyreadernews.com) — Hermosa Beach residents can learn how City Council candidate Eric Horne wants to tackle the city's looming deficit, pier repairs, and short-term rental rules while supporting a half-cent sales tax as a reluctant necessity. Drawing on federal policy and wildfire experience, he proposes specific cuts, a pier fund, and business district improvements to keep Hermosa financially stable and vibrant.

3. Meet the Hermosa Beach City Council Candidates: Elka Worner (easyreadernews.com) — Hermosa Beach voters get a detailed look at City Council candidate Elka Worner, who emphasizes public safety, fiscal discipline, and everyday quality-of-life fixes from paving streets to managing e-bikes. She lays out ideas for sharing a city yard, revisiting contracts, boosting local businesses around events at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, and keeping the pier and neighborhoods affordable and livable.

4. IT'S FUNNY NOW Will Present Five Moth Champions at Hermosa Beach Playhouse (broadwayworld.com) — Hermosa Beach residents can catch five acclaimed Moth storytellers and comics when RimoVision Group brings its biggest-ever Comedy Night to the Hermosa Beach Playhouse on October 24. The nonprofit, based at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, uses these shows to fund local original theater and comedy classes run with the city, so every ticket directly supports homegrown arts in town.
