📰 News we're reading
1. Victor Valley Logistics Boom Is Reshaping the High Desert (livability.com) — Hesperia is becoming a logistics powerhouse, anchored by Amazon's massive new middle‑mile hub on Phelan Road that's expected to bring about 1,000 permanent jobs and major infrastructure investment. City officials say this and nearby warehouse projects at Hesperia Commerce Center are designed to keep more residents working closer to home while turning the High Desert into a key link in Western supply chains.
2. New Development Is Transforming the Victor Valley (livability.com) — Hesperia is in the middle of a major growth spurt, with thousands of new homes, big industrial projects like Amazon and Maersk facilities, and new retailers such as Crunch Fitness and Burlington either open or on the way. City leaders highlight key infrastructure upgrades, including the Ranchero Road Bridge and corridor work, aimed at supporting this surge in jobs, shopping, and housing options for local residents.
3. Brightline West Could Transform High Desert Travel (newsbreak.com) — High Desert residents in Hesperia could soon have a high-speed rail station linking them directly to Rancho Cucamonga and, via Metrolink, to Los Angeles and beyond. The Brightline West project promises faster Las Vegas trips, potential commuter service "down the hill," and billions in economic impact, including thousands of construction jobs and new development opportunities around the local stations.
4. Actor among two killed in horror plane crash in California as mangled wreck found in remote field (newsbreak.com) — A light aircraft crashed nose‑down in a remote Hesperia field last week, killing Israeli actor and flight instructor Guy Kapulnik and Santa Monica resident Taylor Laska. Federal investigators from the FAA and NTSB are still examining what caused the fatal crash, which involved a single‑engine Aeronca Champion linked to a local aviation company.
