Hearing To Determine Fate of Pit Bulls That Killed Elderly LA Man
Authorities will decided whether to euthanize two pit bulls that attacked and killed an elderly man and his little dog in Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A hearing was underway Wednesday to determine the fate of two pit bulls that attacked a 76-year-old man, who later died of his injuries, and killed his small dog.
The attack occurred Feb. 2 about 5:20 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Lincoln Park Avenue, about a block from Valentin Herrera's home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Herrera's dog, Dodger, died at the scene of the attack, and he underwent brain and arm surgeries but later succumbed to his injuries, according to CBS2.

"I think the dogs pulled him down, and he hit the back of his head," the victim's son told Channel 2.
"My dad had a beautiful heart," Luis Herrera said. "So sad to see the way he died."

He said his family wants Los Angeles Animal Services officials to euthanize the dogs.
"They could do it to somebody else," he said.
Two hearing officers tasked with deciding the case were taking testimony from both sides, but a final determination may not be made before the end of the day, said Sarah Ebrahimi, a spokesperson for L.A. Animal Services.
