Man Shot While Walking With Baby In Upscale Neighborhood Is 2nd Seemingly Random Shooting In A Week

The suspect or suspects remain at large, deputies said. The shootings have neighborhood residents on edge.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — No arrests have been made in either of the two shootings that occurred in West Hollywood over the last week, leaving residents in one neighborhood on edge.

The most recent shooting occurred just after noon Tuesday on the 7900 block of Norton Avenue, just north of the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said the attack was unprovoked and random. The suspect approached the man, fired a shot and fled in a white Nissan Altima, WEHOonline reported.

The man was walking with his wife and baby, Fox 11 reported.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was being treated Wednesday afternoon and was in stable condition, according to deputies.

The shooting on the residential street has put neighbors on edge.

"You don't hear a lot of random shootings," one neighbor told NBC Los Angeles. "Somebody like me, I'm just walking down the street — am I next? You don't know."

The shooting followed another one that occurred on Thursday about 0.7 miles east on the 1000 block of North Vista Street, about a block south of Santa Monica Boulevard.

There, a woman had been shot while standing on the balcony of an apartment, according to deputies.

The woman was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

The shooter in that case fired multiple shots at the woman, NBC Los Angeles reported.

Detectives were investigating whether the shooter had some kind of connection to the woman, deputies said.

No arrests have been made in either shooting, a sheriff's official told Patch Wednesday morning. Detectives were looking into the possibility that the shootings, were related, but at this point both appear to be random, he said.

Authorities have not released a description of any suspect or suspects.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Lyndsey Horvath, the former mayor of West Hollywood who now represents the city on the county board, decried the shootings in a statement.

"Gun violence anywhere is devastating and frightening, but especially in a close-knit community like West Hollywood, which has taken safety seriously and significantly invested in protecting residents," Horvath said. "My thoughts are with the community members who have been victimized by this violence; I wish both a full and speedy recovery, and for justice to prevail swiftly.

"To that end, both (West Hollywood Sheriff's Station) Captain (Fanny) Lapkin and Sheriff (Robert) Luna have heard directly from me — solving these crimes is a top priority, and every resource is available to the LA County Sheriff's Department to aid in identifying those responsible, holding them accountable and restoring safety to our neighborhoods."
