Kalu Yala Problems: Growing Pains Of Sustainable Business
How Kalu Yala Is Overcoming The Problems Of Jungle Living For The Sake Of The Planet

Kalu Yala has been making a splash as the sustainable community builds its reputation as a leader in the development of a new way of planning and creating communities in tropical environments. Founder and CEO, Jimmy Stice has long held his dream of changing the way we live our lives and connect with our neighbors but the decision to open the community just outside Panama City was only taken in 2006 when Stice decided to finally make the jump to become a community leader. The fact there have been few Kalu Yala problems is a sign of the thorough research and planning process undertaken by the leaders of the community prior to the opening of the township known as "Sacred Settlement".
Links to the outside world
The development of the community has been of major importance for many humanitarian groups who feel the creation of the settlement in the Tres Brazos Valley may be key in helping change the way communities are created in the Tropics of the world. Over the course of the development of the settlement, the students and young professionals who make their way to the community are often concerned about the possible links to the outside, but Jimmy Stice and his team had already planned for these issues as Panama City is less than 50 minutes from the village so as to limit the Kalu Yala problems.

Creating a positive environment for learning and exploring the positive aspects of the business opportunities offered through Kalu Yala is something the leaders of the community have always sought to encourage. Students are even given the opportunity to work in one of three different parts of the community including educating local children from the nearby settlement of San Miguel. The other two areas of interest for students and young professionals are the construction and design of the community, and the business opportunities of the communities developed from their Panama City offices.

Part of building a secure location at Kalu Yala is the desire to encourage a transparent attitude to the experiences of students, interns, and staff members spending time at the jungle location in Panama. Throughout each semester, each student and staff member is encouraged to write reviews detailing the positive aspects of their experience and to report any Kalu Yala problems they may have identified over the course of their stay; these reviews are published on three different websites to ensure parents, students, and young professionals all have access to as much real information as possible before deciding to spend a semester in Panama.
Much time was spent by Jimmy Stice and his fellow founders of the community finding the perfect location for their planned community to avoid there being many Kalu Yala problems. The site which was eventually chosen offers impressive links to Panama City which means the safety of all those living and working in the community is assured for the entirety of their stay in this impressive jungle landscape.
Sustainability remains the keyword
The Huffington Post reports Jimmy Stice has spent much of his time working to build a community in the Trez Brazos Valley where buildings take up just 20 percent of the land purchased by the Kalu Yala community. To allow the community to lower its reliance on imported products a farm to table program has been developed which has been aided by a new farming area taking up around 30 percent of the land used for the growing community.
Never one to think he has all the answers or skills to develop every aspect of the community in isolation, Jimmy Stice has encouraged a partnership with the nearby San Miguel community which has become mutually beneficial. Local children are educated by interns and many local adults are employed around Kalu Yala, providing their knowledge and skills of farming and working in the area.
Jimmy Stice wants to change the way we live
After experiencing a traditional way of life while growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, Jimmy Stice believes the way life is lived in Kalu Yala will have a positive effect on the lives of millions across the planet. Looking to history has been of major importance for reducing the Kalu Yala problems Stice has to handle. By limiting the impact of his community, Jimmy Stice hopes to continue to develop a new way of living where the land is developed as little as possible but the local community is aided by the work completed.
