La La Land: How Many Oscars Did It Win?

La La Land was nominated for a record-tying 14 awards.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — One of the most celebrated and talked-about films of the year was geared up to make Oscar history Sunday night. La La Land was nominated for 14 awards — tying the record for the most nominations ever with "Titanic" and "All About Eve."

However, three early losses set the film back from beating the record number of awards won — 11 — when it failed to claim the Oscar for the sound editing, sound mixing and costume design categories. A fourth loss came with the film editing category, making it impossible for the movie to tie the record.

Its first win for the night was for production design. Three more wins came for cinematography, original score and original song.

The fifth win for the film came for directing. Damien Chazelle, 32, is the youngest director in history to ever win the award, according to the Academy.

Ryan Gosling did not claim victory as Chazelle did, losing the best actor category to "Manchester by the Sea's" Casey Affleck.

Emma Stone did snag an Oscar for best actress, earning La La Land its sixth and final Academy Award for the night.

The last loss of the night came with the best picture award — which first appeared to have gone to La La Land.
