Transformer Fires Knock Out Power to Thousands Across Los Angeles

Rain-related transformer fires left 23,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in the dark.

LOS ANGELES, CA —About 23,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers were without power Monday, many in the Venice area, in the aftermath of overnight rain and scattered transformer fires.

There was no immediate estimate on when electricity will be restored.

LADWP spokesman Michael Ventre said there were 18 to 20 transformer and utility pole fires early this morning, possibly triggered by the overnight rain.
