Water Line Break Threatens Homes, Businesses in Cahuenga Pass

LOS ANGELES, CA — A subterranean water line break threatened hillside homes and businesses in the Cahuenga Pass on Sunday, reportedly releasing 1,000 gallons of water per minute.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:58 a.m. to the 3300 block of Oak Glen Drive, where some homes and an apartment building on the street were threatened, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A Los Angeles Department of Water and Power supervisor was able to contain about 80 percent of the flow by 1:55 p.m., Humphrey said.

Southbound lanes of Cahuenga Boulevard were closed for cleanup, Humphrey said.

Six businesses in the 3300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard and one home's garage on Oak Glen Drive were impacted, he added.

No injuries were reported and no formal evacuation was issued, he said.
