ABC’s DESIGNATED SURVIVOR is a Must See that Begins September 21st

Keifer Sutherland is back!

Can you feel it? That buzzing of the fall television season when new shows are rolling out looking for an audience. Well, let me tell you that ABC’s DESIGNATED SURVIVOR doesn’t need to roll far to find viewers.

The series stars Keifer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a lower level cabinet member who is enjoying a night with his wife Alex (Natascha McElhone). Watching television an agent bursts into the room trying to protect a confused Kirkman. When he is informed that something is wrong because communications are cut he goes to the window.

As he pulls the curtains back, there is an explosion at the capital where the President, V.P. and the cabinet members are. Within minutes Kirkman is whisked away to the Oval Office and he is sworn in as President.

Rushing to the bathroom for a moment to gather his thoughts, now President Kirkman hears Seth Wright, a speech writer (Kal Penn) unknowingly telling Kirkman that the new President should just resign. That isn’t Kirman’s only problem as son Leo (Tanner Buchanan) is wrapped up in his own illegal activity and daughter Penny (Mckenna Grace) doesn’t understand what is happening.

That alone is a shaky start for the new President who is surrounded by staff keeping him on track with Chief of Staff Aaron (Adan Canto), and Chief of Staff Emily (Italia Ricci). Listening to what they have to say it quickly becomes clear that Kirkman isn’t someone to mess with.

Surrounded by Secret Service people like Mike (LaMonica Garrett) and Hannah Wells (Maggie Q), this is a life Kirkman will have to get use to!

Sutherland as the new President begins a little confused (who wouldn’t be) and once the realization of the situation set in, he straightens his tie and takes on a leader who pushes the new Presidents button. Lets get serious here, Sutherland as President? I wouldn’t mind a tee-shirt that has Sutherland for President on it! In his new role is a chance for Sutherland to go full on Prez. This actor has worked hard to be memorable and has succeeded.

McElhone as First Lady Alex has to process everything that’s happened and it will be interesting to see what she does with this role. Buchanan as Leo is going to be a sore spot for a few episodes I think or pretty much the ‘I’m going to do illegal things’ problem child.

Kal Penn as Seth is a perfect member of the cast. Having a little bit of experience Penn has worked at the White House so it should make his performance even more believable.

Truth be told I love the first episode because I can see how the show is going to get intense (you blow up the State Capitol people will want heads to roll). ABC should be thrilled that there are so many Sutherland fans in the world who are excited to see him in a series once again.

Prepare for thrills, suspense, mystery, intensity, and strength because DESIGNATED SURVIVOR will be bringing it all!
