Owners of New Yoga Studio on Seacoast Drive Aim for ‘Friendly Vibe’

Jaimy Wilkinson and Victor Tapia of Imperial Beach say their new yoga studio will be a comfortable, homey place—like IB.

“You don’t have to be a yogi. It’s for everyday people,” said Tapia, also a yoga teacher in a Vinyasa style along with Wilkinson.

Called IB Yoga, the business at 717 Seacoast Drive opens July 28 from noon to 6 p.m. First classes will be held July 29.

“It’s in and out at other studios,” Wilkinson said. “We want to get to know our students and let them grow with us. We want a friendly vibe and to keep people knowing that we care about their progress.”

Those interested in viewing the studio before it opens may stop by noon to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday next week.

There will be basic, restorative and strength and conditioning classes as well as workshops and yoga gymnastics for kids, the owners said.

Wilkinson said she also is excited to be a part of a changing Seacoast Drive and Imperial Beach and wants IB Yoga to be active and enaged in the community.

In the future, Wilkinson said, the studio may have art or music shows or host sports tournaments.

Tapia plays bongos for the Chula Vista band B-Side Players. Before establishing IB Yoga, Wilkinson was a dog sitter.

Both started as yoga students at the Chula Vista Yoga Center and became yoga instructors.

IB Yoga’s building was used as the Yost family surf shop on the shortlived HBO series John from Cincinnati which aired in 2007. To prepare for the new yoga studio, hardwood floors were installed and the walls were given a fresh coat of paint.
