Nearly 100 Motorists Cited for Distracted Driving in Chula Vista
Police targeted motorists who were talking on their cellphones and/or texting while driving.

CHULA VISTA, CA: Chula Vista police conducted a "distracted driver" operation that cited 99 drivers for illegal cell phone usage, according to authorities.
The operation was conducted throughout Chula Vista from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to Chula Vista police.
During the operation, 54 drivers were cited for using cellphones while driving and 45 others for texting. There were seven drivers who were cited for using a suspended license or not having a valid license, and their vehicles were impounded. Six other citations were written for various vehicle code violations, according to police.

Chula Vista police have two more distracted driver operations scheduled for later this month. Funding for the operations was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
