Silver Strand Half Marathon and 5K Results, Local Man Takes Top 75+ Spot
A 76-year-old man took first place in his age group while two Imperial Beach women took second place in the 60-64 and 65-69 divisions in the 5K.
The Silver Strand Half Marathon and 5K went from Sunset Park in Coronado, down the Silver Strand, through the Navy training complex at Imperial Beach's northern tip and to a finish line in front of the pier.
More than 4,000 people took part. Though many of the participants were from Southern California, names on the results list showed people from as far away as Tucson, Houston and Minneapolis competed.
Imperial Beach seniors performed particularly well.

For the second year in a row, avid runner Richard Williams of Imperial Beach took first place in the 75+ category with a 2:15:46 finish time in the half marathon. Last year Williams came in first in his age group in the Rock 'N Roll Half Marathon and the .
In the past few years Williams said he has finished number one in his age group more than 120 times in marathons and other long distance running competitions.

In the 5K on the woman's side, Jane Williams and Nancy Myers both took second place in the female 60-64 and 65-69 divisions respectively.
Among other local residents who did well, Jeffery Scanlon took third place in the male quad hand cycle division.
Jenna Raef took ninth place in the female 25-29 half marathon divison, which had nearly 340 participants, second only to the female 30-34 division for more people than any other group who competed Sunday.
Rachel Schneider took eighth place in the female 25-29 skate division.
Clifton Carrigg and Nicholas Wagoner both placed in the top 20 in the male 20-24 and 25-29 divisions respectively.
In the 5K, Eric Bauer took first place in the male 30-34 division with a 20:39 finish time and Raul Medina took second place in the male 60-64 division.
Merlinda Conye took 12th place in the female 35-39 division and Rosa Rubio won seventh place in the female 45-49 division.
