Spring Sports Begin at Mar Vista High School

Spring sports are underway at Mar Vista High School and teams begin their seasons in the upcoming weeks.

Girls lacrosse

Coach Shizuka Baker will lead the girls’ lacrosse team in their home opener March 2 against Helix at 4:15 p.m. Then they play at Granite Hills on March 7 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a home game against Preuss UCSD on March 10 at 3:00 p.m.

The team finished last season 5-9-0 overall, 3-5-0 in league.

Baseball

Coach Allan Delos Reyes and Mar Vista baseball will begin the season March 3 at San Dieguito Academy at 3:00 p.m.

The team finished last season 19-11-0 overall, 8-4-0 in league.

Softball

Coach Rick Nichols and the softball team begin their season with a home opener March 4 against Bishop at 3:30 p.m. Then they play at Mater Dei on March 8 at 3:30 p.m. followed by a home game against Chula Vista March 11 at 3:30 p.m.

The team finished last season 21-8-0 overall, 12-0-0 in league.

Boys volleyball

Coach Joe Penolio will lead the boys’ volleyball team on March 8 at Eastlake after the completion of the junior varsity game. Then they play at home against Steele Canyon on March 10 at a time still to be announced.

The team finished last season 23-12-0 overall, 12-0-0 in league.

Boys’ lacrosse

Coach Ryan Scott and the boys’ lacrosse team begin the season March 14 at Otay Ranch at a time still to be determined.

The team finished last season 1-13-0 overall, 0-11-0 in league.

Track and Field

Boys and girls track and field will take part in the Elmer Runge Invitational at Patrick Henry High School March 19. Season begins March 24 against San Ysidro and continues the following week against Montgomery.

Swim and Dive

First meet is March 10 against Eastlake at Mar Vista and a week later against Sweetwater.

Golf

Seasons begins Thursday against Coronado High School and again at the Coronado Golf Course versus Montgomery.

Tennis

The team starts the season March 10 against Olympian High School then Tuesday March 15 against Sweetwater.
