Sun & Sea Festival Transforms into Sandcastle City August 13-22

See the biggest Sandcastle ever on Imperial Beach's sand

Summertime and sandcastles are an Imperial Beach tradition. For one year only, the Sun & Sea Festival Committee will honor Imperial Beach’s love of sandcastles as Sandcastle City August 13-22, 2021. San Diego County’s largest sandcastle competition will be replaced by the largest sandcastle ever built on Imperial Beach sand. This two-story sandcastle will be built at Portwood Pier Plaza by the multi-award-winning professional team and hometown favorite, I.B. Posse.

Visitors to Imperial Beach will watch as a mountain of sand transforms into a vibrant, living work of art. The building starts Friday morning on August 13 and will take place from 10 am to dusk over several days. The giant castle is anticipated to be complete by August 20. The castle will be available for viewing after completion and will not be destroyed by locals as in past tradition.

This event is Funded by the County of San Diego Community Enhancement Grant Program.
