Suspicious Items in Chula Vista Halt Light-Rail Service; Bomb Squad Responds

The items were found near the intersection of J Street and Interstate 5, authorities said.

CHULA VISTA,CA: The discovery of several suspicious-looking bottles near a stretch of South Bay train tracks Thursday prompted trolley delays in the area through the afternoon while authorities investigated.

A passerby reported spotting the containers, which appeared to have duct tape wrapped around them, near the intersection of J Street and Interstate 5 in Chula Vista at about 1:15 p.m., according to police. A bomb squad was dispatched to assess the situation, Chula Vista Police Department Lt. Buddy Magor said.

Metropolitan Transit Service officials halted their light-rail runs through the area and sent in buses to serve affected customers pending completion of the investigation.
