Teen Riding Skateboard Struck By Car In Imperial Beach

The 16-year-old was taken to UCSD Medical Center with serious injuries, officials said.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA – A 16-year-old boy riding a skateboard suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a vehicle in Imperial Beach, authorities said Thursday.

It happened shortly before 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Florida Street, according to Lt. Karla Menzies of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The driver was heading east on Palm Avenue approaching Florida Street when the skateboarder ran a red light heading south across Palm Avenue, Menzies said.

The boy was taken to UCSD Medical Center with serious injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Menzies said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the incident, Menzies said.
